چکیده

Land mobile communication signals are subject to propagation effects that result in variation of received signal amplitude and phase. The most rapid signal variations are the result of multipath propagation and occur with sufficient severity to make reception difficult. At microwave frequencies, the narrowband (30-kHz) channel is considered nondispersive. It will experience flat amplitude fading and band-limited frequency distortion. An understanding of the dynamic nature of the communication channel is required to design land mobile systems that are tolerant of rapid multipath conditions. In this paper, a model is presented to characterize the dynamic nature of multipath channels, and a new dynamic measure, fractional power change rate, is introduced. Distribution of the fractional power change rate, power change rate, and phase change rate are predicted by the model and validated by comparison to measured data. The research in this paper is part of an ongoing effort to develop multipath-tolerant demodulation techniques for higher order modulation types. The measures developed herein are of primary importance for specifying the dynamic requirements for such demodulators.

Direct-Sequence Spread Spectrum in a Shadowed Rician Fading Land-Mobile Satellite Channel

The performance of a direct sequence spread-spectrum land-mobile satellite transmission system, using binary phase shift keying (BPSK) modulation, is analyzed. The satellite channel is modeled as having shadowed Rician fading characteristics. The bit error probability is evaluated, considering both the envelope and the phase variation. Assuming a Gaussian approximation for the interference, num...

A Brief Survey of Channel Models for Land Mobile Satellite Communication

The last review of the modeling of the land mobile satellite channel was done by Karaliopoulos and Pavlidou in 1999. Since then a lot of work has been done to model the land mobile satellite channel. In this paper an up-to-date review of the modeling of the land mobile satellite channel is presented. We look at the various physical characteristics that influence communications in the land mobil...

A new simple model for land mobile satellite channels

In this paper we propose a new shadowed Rice model for land mobile satellite channels. In this model the amplitude of the line-of-sight is characterized by the Nakagami distribution. The model provides closed-form mathematically-tractable expressions for the fundamental channel statistics such as envelope probability density function and envelope-squared moment generating function. The model is...

A Geometrical Three-Ring-Based Model for MIMO Mobile-to-Mobile Fading Channels in Cooperative Networks

This paper deals with the modeling and analysis of narrowband multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) mobile-to-mobile (M2M) fading channels in relay-based cooperative networks. In the transmission links from the source mobile station to the destination mobile station via the mobile relay, non-line-of-sight (NLOS) propagation conditions are taken into account. A stochastic narrowband MIMO M2M ref...

Propagation Characteristics for Land Mobile Satellite Systems from L-Band to EHF-Band

Several system alternatives are being considered for provision of mobile and personal satellite services in the near future. Many proposals adopt nongeostationary satellite constellations, thus the channel characteristics are not stationary. Furthermore, multiple access techniques under consideration range from narrowband to wideband (e.g. CDMA) solutions. Finally, due to the requirement of bei...
